There’s one thing I always meant to ask Jack. Back in the old days. I wanted to know about that Doctor of his. The man who appears out of nowhere and saves the world. Except sometimes he doesn’t. All those times in history when there was no sign of him, I wanted to know why not. But I don’t need to ask any more. I know the answer now. Sometimes the Doctor must look at this planet and turn away in shame. I’m recording this in case anyone ever finds it, so you can see… you can see how the world ended.

If you don’t want Torchwood: Children of Earth spoiled, stop reading.

So, I finished Children of Earth and I knew about Ianto (I was at the memorial in Cardiff three years ago, that’s when CotE was kind of spoiled for me)…

but, GOD, Ianto was NOTHING compared to what happened in the last episode.

Steven’s and Frobisher’s deaths were the most horrible things I have ever seen on television, and I am not joking.

You see, I hadn’t been crying over anything fictional for 13 years until I read Alone on the water in summer – but I did twice today. Because it was terrible, cruel, hopeless and I may or may not be crying again right now.

I don’t get why people are saying Frobisher was the evil guy. Alright, he did some things that weren’t “good” but so did Jack. He wasn’t a hero, but he wasn’t a bad guy and he certainly wasn’t “evil”. He was as much a victim as anyone and his fate was just as heartbreaking.

I did like this character because, like I said, he wasn’t “good” and he wasn’t “evil”. He was a middle man through and through, and just so incredibly human. He follows orders and does what he feels he has to to save as many people as he can. With the exemption of the blank page but you must be blind if you don’t see the guilt on his face. All the while he is being used by the people he is following orders from, and he knows it, but he keeps going because he is scared. Scared the world will discover the past dealing with the 4-5-6, scared of the 4-5-6 themselves, and above all, scared for the safety of his children. And after all this, he is betrayed in the worst way. It was all for nothing, his children are not safe like he thought they would be, so he does the only thing he can think of to save them from a fate worse than death. Its horrible and its heartbreaking, but damn that is a well written character.

Side note: All this is from memory (asides from Part One which I have watched recently), so sorry if there are any factual mistakes.
