Apologies for the incredibly long rant but:

I’ve been up since 7:30am watching the news unfold, and I am so angry that the future of this country – my future, my siblings’ future – has been hijacked by fear mongering and intolerance. Right now our Prime Minister has announced he will resign by October (who by the way is a bellend and the fact I’m not even a little bit happy that he is resigning should be a real sign as to how fucked up everything is) and soon we will have a Prime Minister not elected by the people and is likely to be the more extreme/right wing/traditionalist Boris Johnson or Michael Gove, two other members of the same party (the Conservatives) – TWO VERY BAD PEOPLE WHO SHOULD NEVER RUN THIS COUNTRY (seriously look these twats up, I have neither the energy nor the willpower to outline their specific brand of fuckery). 

Not only has Cameron stepped down, but Jeremy Corbyn the leader of the Labour Party (main opposition to current government) has been pressured to step down with a vote of no confidence. Plus Scotland UNANIMOUSLY voted to remain, and now are calling for a second referendum and will likely leave the UK and gain independence (which they completely deserve by the way after this shambolic excuse of democracy). 

Furthermore, the leave campaign was based on utterly inaccurate/out of context facts – something which not even 2 hours after the result had been announced was already being backtracked over. What’s horrifically ironic is the fact that some of the big draws for the leave campaign – i.e. saving money and stopping immigration – are not guaranteed, being dependent on what kind of deal is made with the European Union. 

YouGov also released the breakdown of the vote and shock bloody horror, but most young people (75%) voted to REMAIN, whereas most of those that voted to leave were WHAT A SURPRISE were over 65 – so the people that decided our future won’t even live to suffer the consequences of the decision. I’m furious that once again my vote, the vote of my peers has meant absolutely nothing. And most of these people who voted to leave were woefully misinformed, least of all by the right wing/nationalistic/racist tabloids like The Sun and The Daily Mail. 

I’m a child of immigrants, both of my parents (from Sri Lanka) have worked incredibly hard to get here and stay here. While this doesn’t affect them, I can only imagine the pain and fear currently being experienced by Europeans who have suddenly had their lives turned upside down by a bunch of xenophobic, racist, right wing, elderly, elitist, ignorant fuckers. Beyond the consequences for Britain (economy etc), this is already starting to have a global impact: extreme right parties in France and the Netherlands are using this as a platform and most likely will be able to exploit this in order to gain more power in their country – which BTW IS NOT FUCKING GOOD. 

And the single most frustrating part of this mess (oh yeah there’s more!) is that this whole referendum came about because of inter-party politics. David Cameron, the Prime Minister, promised a referendum on the EU during the General Election in order to neutralise the threat of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) who basically compromise of people Donald Trump would be right mates with. In order to sway their voters (read: racists and ‘nationalists’) Cameron promised a referendum, which of course escalated into a Conservative (aka Tory) power struggle with Johnson and Gove coming out swinging for the leave campaign in frankly ridiculously obvious bid for the leadership of the Tory party (which they will get along with leadership of the country). Political ego wanking has meant that the future of this country is now completely up in the air and in the hands of an elite right wing who by the way don’t even have a plan for what comes next. 

Nigel Farage, the UKIP leader (not even an MP and a walking personification of a fart), also made a disgusting comment about how this was achieved without a single bullet being fired not even two weeks after the murder of MP Jo Cox. He also btw stated that June 23rd should become ‘British Independence Day’ – which would be bloody hilarious if it wasn’t so fucking insulting and derogatory to the many many people who lost their lives trying to get independence FROM BRITAIN (i.e. the Empire).

I am ashamed to be British today and terrified about the future of my country – America I hope this can be a wake up call please for god sake do NOT let that walking shit stain become your President – please go out and VOTE, I can’t bear to live in a world with Boris Johnson as the Prime Minister of Britain and Trump as the leader of the United States.
