Germany’s respected Duden dictionary has received a spoof award for its excessive use of English words. “Shitstorm,” “app” and “Facebook” are among the anglicisms recently added to the reference book.lololol prescriptivism
Ah yes, because people have never and would never use words that are not in the dictionary. Never. Not once. Nobody said “Shitstorm” and now all of a suddden you hear grandmothers yelling it across the street.
It’s horrendous.
If the VDS actually wants us to say “Klapprechner” (a word I hadn’t heard until today) instead of Notebook, well, it’s their problem. I am not going to use constructed German words nobody uses instead of English words that everybody understands!
